Preparing for Your First Cosmetic Consultation

By the Aesthetics by Allure Team

Taking the step to book your first cosmetic consultation can feel both exciting and a little daunting. Whether you’re considering treatment for fine lines, skin laxity, or simply want to explore your options, knowing what to expect can help you feel confident and prepared. Here’s everything you need to know about making the most of your consultation at Aesthetics by Allure.

What is a Cosmetic Consultation?

A cosmetic consultation is a dedicated appointment where you meet with a qualified practitioner to discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals. It’s an opportunity to learn about available treatments, understand what’s realistic for your situation, and develop a personalised treatment plan.

At Aesthetics by Allure, we view the consultation as the foundation of your aesthetic journey. We take time to understand not just what you want to change, but why and we work with you to achieve results that enhance your natural beauty.

Before Your Appointment

Reflect on Your Goals

Before your consultation, spend some time thinking about what you’d like to achieve. Consider:

What specific concerns bother you most?

How long have you been thinking about treatment?

What results would make you feel satisfied?

Are there any treatments you’ve researched or are curious about?

You don’t need to have all the answers that’s what the consultation is for. But having a general sense of your priorities helps guide the conversation.

Gather Your Medical History

Your practitioner will need to know about your medical history to ensure any recommended treatments are safe and appropriate for you. Be prepared to discuss:

Any medical conditions you have

Medications you’re currently taking (including supplements)

Previous cosmetic treatments you’ve had

Any allergies or sensitivities

If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant

Come with a Clean Face

If possible, arrive at your consultation with minimal or no makeup. This allows your practitioner to properly assess your skin and facial structure. Don’t worry we understand this isn’t always possible, and we can provide makeup removal if needed.

What Happens During the Consultation

The Discussion

Be honest and open during this discussion. The more we understand about what you’re hoping to achieve, the better we can tailor our recommendations.

The Assessment

Your practitioner will conduct a thorough assessment of your skin and facial structure. This may involve examining your skin quality, noting areas of volume loss or laxity, and analysing your facial proportions.

We may take photographs for your medical records and to help track your progress over time. These images are kept strictly confidential.

Treatment Recommendations

Based on your goals and assessment, your practitioner will discuss treatment options. We’ll explain:

Which treatments are most suitable for your concerns

How each treatment works

What results you can realistically expect

Any risks or potential side effects

Recovery time and aftercare requirements

The number of sessions that may be needed

Questions to Ask Your Practitioner

Don’t be afraid to ask questions a good practitioner welcomes them. Consider asking:

What qualifications and experience do you have with this treatment?
Why do you recommend this particular treatment for me?
What results can I realistically expect?
How long will the results last?
What are the potential risks and side effects?
How should I prepare for the treatment?
What does the recovery process look like?
Are there any alternatives I should consider?

After Your Consultation

There’s no pressure to make a decision during your consultation. We encourage you to take time to consider the information provided and reflect on whether the recommended treatments align with your goals.

If you decide to proceed, we’ll schedule your treatment appointment and provide any pre-treatment instructions. If you have additional questions after leaving, don’t hesitate to contact us we’re here to support you throughout your journey.
